beneath the waxen moon comes a sallow tinge to the depths of silvers and charcoals smudged against the taut skin of the lank wolf that prowls between the dark trunks. mist rises from the soil as if the sun had super heated the ground and the disappearance of the sun had brought a terrible chill that coaxed the air to life. it swirled too and fro. for a fleeting second she wonders if the gods touched this place.
hollow as it was, empty as it was, the forest gleaned only the epitome of wild life. somewhere an owl called, hoooo, hooooo. a promise to the stir of life beneath the heavy boughs of pine laden branches. beneath the streamers of moonlight glint the reflection of eyes, mirrored through the flash of light as the lithe form threads its way through prickling arms.

she is uncertain of her path. a voyager traversing through foreign land.
though she is alone she tastes no fear. no bitter edge of worry tingles on the edge of her vacant thoughts as she explores the world they'd passed into.

glory teeters on the edge of her incisors. saliva winds itself around the teeth as her tongue slips out to flick against thin lips. a hungry beast. she toys with the idea of a midnight hunt, but finds the idea doesn't satiate the rumble that rolls through her brain like storm clouds invading.

memories of kaldemunr are sickly beneath thoughts of future conquering held beneath the swollen moon. oblivescence wanes as teeth grit behind thin lips which raise to reveal pearly canines, let fly speckles of foamed liquid just before they part, snapping together within milliseconds an action that bares frustration over past mistakes. steered off course of her redemption within the new land, there is only heated coals that spark within the cavity of her pitted chest. the distant call of an owl reminds her that she is present, there is no past, and she must press on lest Valhalla be lost.
they - valtýr, mercutio, and ve - needed to use each other's strengths to reach glory within this foreign land.

and yet, where were they?

she had been slow in their journey through the woodlands before them, as her sister sojourned forth. valt had taken her time, inched along as she sought remnants of ash, or the slow decay of glowing embers. nothing. it was their season, the time where their father would be seeking good fortunes from the beyond. her heart ached for commune, to dream as their father said would have happened. the herbs were there, she'd seen them beneath the hooded canopy. knew their scent, knew the shape. yet, the gods did not speak, or perhaps wouldn't. it did not bode well in her heart, and it sank deeply into the burnished depths of horror. the sound of frustration filtered through the din, and her gloaming eyes lifted through the veils to seek out the familiar figure: the heart that mirrored hers. ghosts of before must have found frigg, valtyr could see this and she hurried her steps so to catch her more virile twin. frigg had strength where she'd only had begun to find her own. acrid came the taste of it, built on growing remorse and grief. ghosts of their lives were coming, and they would not speak. "the gods do not speak." a mournful sound, though shades less a wail -- though, she knew her sister would see and know this too. they were alone. mercutio, ve, valt and Frigg. they were alone in this strange land, as the gods would not speak.

it had been awhile since the man had wandered from the gaia. the hakai and the pits had been two separate homes for him. so maybe a visit to one of his second homes would do him some good. so, he stepped out of the gaia, one of the places that he had not left since theodosia's death- well except to the hill, where he sat quietly for the burial of his adopted sister. the man needed a getaway from the constant thoughts and maybe the hakai mists forest would help. maybe the mists would clear his head or fog it on more, clouding the thoughts he already had. solitude had not found mars in a long time.

the earth king made his way to the forest, necklace proudly at his chest as he moved into the mists, somewhere that would clear his mind. there were still missing patches of fur from the weird darkness that had taken over doutaini for a short period of time as well as the scar that shimmered underneath any light reminding him of how he lost half his ear and where he came from. a constant reminder of the man he used to be- the boy he used to be. but, he is not alone for long, his thoughts are intruded by new voices, female ones. his ears are perked- well the right one that was fully functional and the other was out of habit. he could not see them yet, only hear the voice of a girl who said the gods did not speak. mars chuckled and made his way towards the voices, vines slithering beside him and wrapping around the trees that were alongside the girls. "i would not say they never speak. they are very quiet sometimes." mars speaks as he emerges behind his vines, slithering next to one of the trees as he sits, imaginary crown atop his head that crooks to the side. "sorry to disturb your exploring, i heard voices and thought i might see if you all were lost. i'm mars, of earth." a sly smirk works its way onto his lips, for that line had not been said in awhile, it felt foreign on his lips. his tail swishes from side to side as his necklace glows underneath the dimmed light as well as his eyes that shift from hazel to a glowing green aura.

Frigg & Valtýr- crashing in.

desire spurns hot and rigid down the charcoal smudged backside as memories pool before they ebb. a distinct bitter taste pools in her mouth, extra saliva floods the orifice before a distinguishable movement of the throat signifies the saliva's descent. the depths of brow line knit in a downward gesture over deep eyes, a gaze thrown backwards to the mirror that anguishes behind her. "Gods," she speaks in a guttural way, there might have been more to add if the sound of a stranger encroaching on their spiritual quest captures her attention.

an impregnable scrutiny is offered to the masculine essence. there's just a flicker of eyes toward the movement at her peripherals, though no movement of the head is given to fully notice the vines that snake around the engraved trunks. think lips pucker just slightly as twilit depths gauge and pick the definition of the man before them.

you will be weighed, you will be measured.

there's a slight definitive tip of her muzzle then, a motion toward her mirror-image which dismisses the idea of this male that speaks so of the gods. "vhen gods do no speck, valhalla ist no open." (when gods do not speak, valhalla is not open.) the heavy burden of an accent deepens the otherwise pleasant sound of her voice, struggling with the common tongue. no acknowledgement of the apology came. such a thing was pointless to the likes of she, who cared little for the etiquette of society. "i ist cauled frigg tyde brekker, oft clan stórmyrkr." (i am called frigg tide breaker, of clan stórmyrkr.)
there was a cold glint within the pit of the eye. cold distrust of mars, of the strangeness he represented. she did not like the softness of the male's polite words either. only the strong were worthy to approach she and the dusk bringer.

they must be strong.

Mars Valtýr

the fool doth think he is wise but a wise man knows himself to be a fool

He'd been trailing behind the group for a while, weaving in and out of his forged thoughts and heartiness. Confusion lacing itself within his mind. Everyone was tense lately, finding nothing but grief within the whims of the world. Valt being extremely on edge and unfocused lately, her quiet mumblings along the way reaching only the ears of those willing to listen. For what more was there to do, than listen? The swollen fogs, and mists clouded the area encasing the group in a canopy of clouded dust, and destruction. Daunting blue eyes seemingly holding a peculiar glow within the forests tree's and lines ahead. Mercutio remains close - Valt more than Frigg to be exact. Nimble body twisting in uneven ways to keep aside of the two twins, as carnage lips peel back in a encapsulated frown at their leader's words. "the god's utter no words of nuisance unto a pile of bones" Mercutio's humor is dry and uncatalogued, thoughtless, and quiet frankly unnerving to himself even in the slightest. Drying hackles raise wildly at the appearance of a strange figure, lips peeling back into a quiet, yet hissing snarl as the horizons within his eyes focus upon the man. "crax speak of men like you. have you come to val us?" ["crows speak of men like you. have you come to kill us?"] Within a flash the situation seems to turn beneath Mercutio's feet, the lesser, yet more indulgent feature of the twins stepping forwards to greet the strange man. Concern, and defiance rippling through paper thin skin as Mercutio's shoulders roll forwards. "ist valhalla is not open ve, cannot return home." ["If Valhalla is not open we cannot return home"] the native tongue of a viking warrior breaks through his forced normal speech as the jester Mercutio shuffles forwards slightly, shoulders slumping in relaxation in the slightest as his muzzle turns characteristically towards the skies. "and I ist Mercutio. the laughing night oft ze clan stórmyrkr" ["and I am Mercutio. The laughing night of the clan stórmyrkr"]

self-preservation: a strong suit. she'd developed an aptitude for avoidance of greeting val too soon.

a cowardly shade of their kind, to not greet the honor of a good death would have been shrewdly frowned upon. but, the dusk bringer was of a greedy sort. she had much to see in this world, yearned for sights unseen and treasured knowledge. and so when he approached and intruded the shield-maiden turned a glare towards him. her heart thumped, and as her twin introduced herself a hastened breath was sucked between the clench of her ivory teeth. a hiss of disapproval, furthered by the approach of mercutio and his swift offer of his identity. fools! he was no threat, but they were too generous,.

they spoke with ease, too much ease. a scowl fitted itself, brewing a dour expression as she appraised this Mars of Earth. what did he know of gods? the gods would not speak to them, but valtyr would not be denied her right. not if she were to greet death in this strange land. there would be a place for her in glory. it would be a good death and valhalla would not be closed.

"he would not." Mars seemed too kind, too softened, too eager to appease. she imparted a sidelong glance to the stranger and his alien trinket. of course, such caution slipped as she turned towards mercutio. noticeably, the last of their group was missing and a brow was raised. an urge grew, to ask the others where ve could have been. yet this too, would have been telling. it seemed little to their benefit to raise such worry in the company of a stranger. noting the absence, valt moved so to exchange looks with mercutio, yearning for him to note the same as her without having to utter as much. "valhalla will not close." she remarked, assured by her own convictions alone.

mars sits in front of the two before a third emerges. it makes mars thinks he seeing a double of one of them since his headache and stomach bile is building to the usage of his vines, something he had not done in a long while. but, regardless, he looks to the first one who speaks. a small smile is given to her when she speaks of their homeland (maybe?) mars does not know. but he listens, valhalla. his eyes flicker to the boy who speaks next, accent thick but he can make out fear in his voice and the words that he speaks. mars' shakes his head to the man, smiling still, that charming smile that had not been used in awhile. "i am no killer, mercutio." he murmurs to the man before bowing his head to the leader of the group- or so it seemed, "frigg, welcome. you are in a place called doutaini, the hakai mists forests. here, there is a lot that is.. different from other places. gods are very much alive here. i have met many of them." mars hums, humble that he had met most of the gods, happy that he had. they were all very nice- except akako and haya, he had very different opinions of them then seacca and vaitan did.

then there is the quiet one who speaks of him also not harming anyone, how could he? they were new, sweet, and gave him so reason to. his eyes flickered between the three, he knows there is no evidence of gods here, so he would have to show them, no? the trees start to shift and the light starts to grow brighter and brighter. before there is anything else, there is the call of seagulls, the ocean in front of them and sand underneath their feet- though it still feels of grass and the smell is still the hakai mists forests. mars' heart stops at this and he wobbles slightly until he sits himself down, image flickering slightly, but staying strong as he looks to the small group- as soon as they all looked around, the image would then disappear, not for long would it last. mars took a gasp of air when the image did disappear. his eyes flickered to them all, chest heaving slowly as his necklace shimmered with light.

"the gods here have blessed some us with special gifts."

frivolous, certainly, to part with the mystery that surrounded them. frigg was not so timid as valt to give information. some day the world would know frigg's name as she devoured the land. this mars was nothing to her but something to be conquered, and who cared if mars knew her name? it would not stop her teeth from severing the papery flesh beneath the throat.

at first she had not noticed the bauble hung around the thick of mars's neck, but now her gaze rested for a few seconds on the bauble as the man sat before them. how lax, to be so unafraid of tempestuous strangers. there is no spark of fear through her body. she is still as rock, her gaze a cruel judgement of the infinitesimal idea of this mars and all his talk of gods.

mercutio's presence is a welcomed one, though frigg immediately brushes off the fear of this sorcerer. they should put mars to the flame, with all his talk about knowing gods and witchcraft beneath the pregnant moon. a foolish man to waggle a tongue filled with endless lies.

"we do no met gods," there is a purposeful shake of her head back-and-forth as her guttural tongue slides around her mouth, "untless," and here she pauses as her eyes bore into the face of mars once more, "death." the gods did not twitter in their ears or step from their celestial homes. only the seers were damned enough to be misshapen, cursed beasts only half of the mortal realm; the seers were condemned to see things outside of normalcy, some thought it a gift. the only useful information mars spilled from his jowls was the identification of their whereabouts.

and then, the witchery plays a movie before the viking trio.

though a picture plays around them, she pushes through the rise of her hackles and quickened beat of the stone organ that thrashes within her rib cage. witchcraft!
a heathen! a forsaken!
thoughts grow wild as thin lips pull above the gum line to display pearly canines, spittle flies as the deep thrum of a vicious snarl tears across her vocal cords. "vitchcraft! he vould burn unter the eyes of odin." (witchcraft! he should burn under the eyes of odin.) there is a wild look across the charcoal-silver visage, with the bright alabaster strip across the muzzle wrinkled, eyes grown narrow in their sockets as her head lowers between ropy shoulders with malice echoed in every word, and her hackles raised by single hairs until they stood in a bristled array of madness. mars claimed to know the gods and yet how could he?no mortal being "met" the divine - not unless they were deep within the grave. such claims automatically drew a label of insane to frigg's mind as her body braced itself for impact. limbs bent at the joints, paws splayed against the soil, and she felt the surge of battle run through her veins. just the smallest fraction of control held her from springing.

"valse claims! gods do no valk vith mortals." ears flipped against her skull as her jaws hung unhinged once the words were forced from her tongue. she pressed experimentally upon the roof of her mouth. rage surged through hot veins and control was on the verge of loss.

the fool doth think he is wise but a wise man knows himself to be a fool

forage limbs would creak silently beneath the hearty, and hefty hold of the young viking. hackles raised in unusion, and frivolous caution upon the strange man. ebony ears would catch the sound uttered from their superior - Valtýr speaking so surely, upon the man not reaping death upon them. a quiet snort would blow past the brute's nostrils, inflaming them slightly as thickened muscles rolled beneath the armor of skin. mercutio's eyes would meet the one of the wins, returning the quiet brow raise upon the disappearance of ve. their other half, but concern lingering no longer than a second for him. if she would abandon ship, so be it. the crows, and vultures would soon greet her with nothing but a solace presence of death. where she could walk with the gods for once, or be casted into the pits of shadows. "vhat makes you so sure that Valhalla has not already closed?" his words are a challenge unto Valt. contraindicating her remarks with a fervor-less manner. mercutio, however understood how much this meant to the twins. valt, more than frigg. therefor, the remark was only to be countered as one of unusion and concern - beckoning the twins to at least grasp a quiet piece of reality and think before hand.

the fevor-lessness within the man's voice is countered as nothing but a threat to the aloof brute, his guard remains stationary and up within the group. ocean irises examining the bulb around mars throat so quietly and carefully as frigg speaks. registering the softened glow of the strange object before him, mercutio's mind makes a brash a quiet decision that whatever that thing was , is his life line.

within a flash witchcraft dances before the trio of warriors eyes. sense heightening in such a way that would seem almost impossible for some of such weariness. yet, it is stil l there. the energy frigg gives off rushing through mercutio's bones, fueling his fire once again as adrenaline pulses wildly through thin veins. a loud hiss accompanied by a snarl presses beneath the pearly yellow incisors as sharpened fangs bare before the man. mercutio is far more than calm at this point, the words and spittle from Frigg's voice only spurring him on within the moment of false claims and demonic witchcraft. heathen! he spits wildly, joints bending in uneven ways as he splays himself firmly within the dirt countering frigg's movements. the day of Ragnarok is upon him. he must burn within the eyes of odin! rage presses tightly through the morsel of sanity left within hi, warding away what is left of any peace within the temple of his body as he snarls wildly at the mars man.

you know nothing of the gods! you are a witch! the urge to lunge forth upon the man and burn him within the ever biding flames is far too strong. to rid the world of the false prophet, and witch upon the times. he knows nothing, he speaks of lies and riddling, sent to disarm the viking trio and wreak havoc upon their world.

cancerous fright and hate: it pervaded the blackened iron surrounding the flesh of her heart. it seeped and spread as her kin's voices rose and volleyed. he must burn. in a moment her bickering with mercutio went forgotten. such tresspasses between the two were commonplace and the moment could not be spared. her hackles lifted further, as gooseflesh bled down her spine. the dusky ponds of her eyes widened, collecting in wetness at the harrowingly display made by the bewitched figure.

angrily, her lips spread themselves wildly along the length of her muzzle, curled upwards as a song of horror ripped from her throat. the titian length of her ears fled, backed against her skull as the throes of instinct continued to command; her weight found itself evenly spread with her limbs splayed and the body lowered to the sod beneath them. rage polluted her, as calmly as mercutio made himself to be, as controlled as frigg thought herself. no, Valtýr of sjórmyrkr found no joy or awe in what mars presented before them. burn! they cried. images of aged blackened hearths crossed the film of her eyes, the heretical stench of wrongness filled her lungs as it had then .

he was touched, touched by impure hands.

valtyr, dusk-bringer, would see it be cleansed.

driven by natural bravado, she sprang into movement. guided by an innate fear for all that she could not understand. he meant to see them taken from their path into valhalla, meant to sweep them into the blackened pit of whatever this doutaini made for them. her strides were quick, driven in it's natural aptitude for swiftness. her jaws were still agape, though held low, and as the distance closed between them, they aimed their grasp for the remnants of glow wafting from the trinket at his neck. her weight collected behind her charge, legs threatening to tangle with that of her foe. this allowed for her neck to curl towards her shoulder. she would burn the witch, so that the divine wrath of odin would not be wasted on such impurity. for kaldmunnr, her heart sang. for the tithing, it continued.

she had already earned her name once, and she meant to do it again.

It ended swiftly – as though called upon by Odin’s bereft hands, as though it was him who’d guided her actions. There was no joy in it however, as her opponent gave into the machinations of her wrath and fright. Her heart plummeted in the quickness of his defeat, and she stepped away. She had meant to undo him, and it would seem Mars’ life was flayed with gratuitous art. She listened, ears pushed forward, for the sound of his heart or his breath.

She was young still, though this was not the truth in her mind. Inexperience clouded the sincerity of her sureness, and she retreated from what she believed to be a corpse. No grin, no smiling victor; she turned instead, to her kinfolk. Had there been snags of her flesh, had there been blood falling from her, she would have rejoiced in another taken. This was dirty, this was an unclean kill and it set her teeth on edge. Like slaying the innocent, like taking life too young. She grimaced, uncertain of the witch-thing felled by her tooth. She’d await no affirmation of the act, looked not for the triumphant glow in their faces.

Instead her brow furrowed in displeasure and the length of her tongue stretched along the insides of her mouth – as though to rid to herself of the evidence of her cheerless kill. Made miserable of it, she turned and barked over her shoulder. "let us go from here, i am sure there is much more to be seen in this place."

Without much more, Valtyr departed from the scene, and further into Doutaini. exit.

*M for gore.*

though her sister champions over the witch there is little blood spilled and frigg wonders just how dead the witch actually was. her thin lips twitch as a desire to devour the witch once and for all fills her carnal passions. vikings were no cannibals, and so she would only seek to take a trophy: the eyes of mars, the witch of earth.

the width of her muzzle would move as her fangs made quick work of the matter to widen the sockets around the edges and her right paw would step on the top of his muzzle - perhaps making it increasingly harder for the wolf to get oxygen to his already unconscious brain and prolonging the time she had to carve the eyes from their sockets. she stepped away for only a few seconds to find a stick to help pry the eyeballs from their holes before she would sever the cords that held them in place. a trophy of their ability to overcome the evils of the world, and a trophy of their first 'kill' in this new land.

once the eyes were clean from their sockets she left the gaping holes to their own, caring not if VALTÝR had left the premise or not. with the eyes dangling between her teeth she would float into the mist shrouded forest with her treasure to find something ropy enough to sling the eyeballs from her neck until they shriveled to husks. then she would likely dispose of them, not aware that eyeballs didn't hold their spheres due to the amount of moisture they contained. wherever they ended up next, she hoped they would find a prospective settlement to make their own.

-exit with mars's eyeballs-

Valtýr Mars Mercutio
