Divine Intervention!
The push and the pull of the gentle ocean waves suddenly subsides, the wash of white sea-foam and deep blue drawing back as their ebbing lines are seemingly banished backward beyond the horizon. As the shoreline recedes, it unveils an intricate sand bar dotted with a myriad of shells glistening with opalescent color, almost like a footpath forged directly toward the mysterious island newly formed on the horizon. Moonbeams danced across the slick, newborn path and, jealous, the stars followed suite. They first seemed to descend from the heavens, then writhed from deep within the depths of the water below, weaving together in glittering traces of starlight to form a structure unlike anything any mortal had ever laid eyes upon. It is built in the likeness of a structure reminiscent of the ancient ruins that dotted Doutaini, made of stone knitted by stardust that amassed together until it became a relic of physical divinity. The final touches on the bridge are crafted on the dry sands on each side of the serene shoreline, with fluttering effigies of light donning the entrances. It is complete, and wondrous. The world held its breath, a weary silence trudging across the night sky. After a moment, it is broken by a simple whisper that echoed far and wide, reaching every crevice.

      'Unify,' the air danced.

Hoshiko's voice pirouetted through the hearts and minds of every soul in Doutaini, each mortal and long dead spirit. A pull tugs on the wolves of the world and of those of the past, a deep rooted ache, an irrefutable longing that will push them all toward the bridge. A second time, the bell tolls, ethereal and mistakable.

      'Unite,' it beckoned.

To commemorate this momentous moment, the opening of a true gateway into the land of the dead, the mother Goddess smiled softly and let her essence fall to the beach in the form of thousands of twinkling orbs. She is the night sky, her lanterns hanging in the air with flickering edges. In the heavens above, an aurora snaked in the heavens, twisting to and fro with a rainbow of translucent color.

NOTE: Feel free to post on this thread to enjoy the opening of Eternity Isle! The effects of the hanging stars and aurora will end with this thread and cannot be incorporated into another DoTD thread.

there is a deep call that awakes the man whom rests in the glade. his ears perk before his eyes open wide. green glowing in the midst of the night. paws steady to their feet and legs start to move. mars shakes his fur out, ready to go. it is her voice again. the goddess who makes things right. the goddess he always came to, who was he to ignore her call again? mars' moves through the glade, through the mire, working his way towards the shorelines before he arrives. the sky is lit in ablaze of pink and red, mars gazes upon the hanging stars for a long time before his eyes settle on something new. a land-bridge, one leading somewhere else. his eyes cast back upon doutaini before he uses his paws to step onto it, making sure it was sturdy. his large paws slowly move down the bridge, seeing an island in the distance. his head cocks to the side, what was this? a new addition? like the shallows in the gaia? as he moves closer, there is a tree that catches his eye, full of color. the green leaves seem to match his gem. his ears flick, shaking out his head, the words still echoing in the young man's head. what was this place? his eyes wander, seeing a volcano in the distance. mars, finally, steps onto the land, moving slowly as if a threat was upon him. his eyes flicker from side to side, taking it all in as he lowers himself to the ground. he sits, taking it in, the stars, the glow of the sky, the woman's voice in his head, before he takes off, heading towards the center of the isle, the heart of it, where the tree is. mars cannot even fathom the things he sees as he passes, is this heaven? has he died? he barely felt his legs as he moves to the tree, it's in sight, colors and all. his eyes are focused on it as he slows himself, slowly making his way closer. it is lit up in shining leaves, dark blue leaves, green leaves, red leaves, yellow leaves, almost white leaves, light blue leaves, translucent leaves, and purple ones. mars gazes down to his necklace, giving a small smile. hoshiko, the spirit goddess, had made this isle for the spirit wolves. realization hits him like a bear. he slowly moves closer as he presses his nose against the tree. briar. his eyes close as his head leans against the tree. he would be able to come to this heaven, not worry about earth. who would with a view like this? his head lifts, a long, solemn howl leaving his lips for the departed king. his beloved king. briar could come home to this, to heaven.

strange things had been happening. was it only lately? she wasn't sure. Cass met a wolf who said that the Day of the Dead was upon them. perhaps the spirits were restless and seeking life beyond the veil. and while she may not know much about Doutaini traditions and their gods, her own were a bit similar. and again, while she may not believe in anything concrete she knew that strange things were going on. the sky above her opened up in an array of color. it had been bubbling to that point for hours now. the female looked up at the stars now, a mess of purple-orange background with flitting spots. an aurora. she hadn't lived north. more south she was, a middle ground, and auroras were rare in that setting.

she thought it was beautiful.

how the dead might envy the living for this display, unknown to her that the spirits were drawn to this place. an island, a bridge toward it. she had stepped gingerly at first until she was racing to it. an unnatural pull to go, to see, to seek. but what she hadn't a clue. she possibly ignored the voice in her mind in favor of wind whispers. she was not a believing soul to flit around so easily a religion. her own gods called in her head sometimes. the great wolf with the lightning bolt... the one trapped forever in the underworld... and the wolf of the sea... there was more of course but that was the main.

skidding to a halt, she spotted yet again Mars. they were running into each other a lot since she came to Doutaini. it was fate, perhaps, that they would remain friends. Cassiopeia trotted over to him, settling down on the ground. placing her paws in front of her, she bent over to lick absently at her legging. "is this the fabled Day of the Dead I heard so much about?" she asked the earth wolf, one ear turned to listen to a reply.

'ahh.' a sigh that steals all the air from her lungs, breath abandoning her as she stumbles into place. the call had drawn her from slumberless wandering and, like chattel, she had attended. primevil instinct leads her ambling steps to Mars' side, his precense the closest thing to familiarity among the alien. their shared scent is of forest, lazy water, blooming growths, and so very vivid in the magic-rich air.

as if in a dream, her will reaches into the soil and tempts out peonies in all the vivid colours of a sunset, wild growths that spiral from her ankles until she is swaying and gagging with the poison in her veins. amaranth, crimson, the lustre of molten gold, a riot of colours that billows as she shifts. the world tilts sharply on its axis, and she staggers into a crouch, fingers curled loosely in defeat. 'come back to us.' but the night is restless and full, and her voice is so very small.

a breath echoed within her soul, her chest. metallic eyes take in everything. the smell, the paticular stench. blinking shallowly, toes that spread on the sand. the soil. new, specific. was this so odd. did the gods grace them with another land? not prettier exactly, but fresh compared to everything else. her head dips, keeping her distance, and muscles tight in response to the heavenly presence that washed over her. this would do, freya'd make this work. and sooner or later, everything would make since. "Is this for us? Our gift to explore?" It couldn't be! After getting hit in the face with eyeballs, and cornered by unknown rebel, it was hard to believe this could be anything but a test.

Mother Nature!

As the first mortals begin to investigate the ethereal bridge, the hanging orbs of starlight, a gift from the mother goddess, slowly begin to hum and vibrate in soft excitement. Their resplendent rays glisten, growing in vibrancy until they reach a crescendo that fully lights the long pathway into the island of the dead. They seemed eager to chase away the darkness, to shine until the end of time. Above, the aurora continued explode color into the night sky. It was a glorious occasion, after all. The Isles had been forged with the power of all Gods, and it had not been a light nor an easy task. A single divine lantern flickered, buzzing in error before self-correction.

Their forms etched great shadows across the ocean waves that lapped at either side of the sea-bed below, and it was to no fault of their own that they failed to notice the swelling of the tide and the voracious way it began to lap against the construct's supportive beams. The sloshing water produced a froth of sea-foam whose ivory bled black with oil-slick bands of shadow, each inky tendril wriggling outward, floating atop the surface of the sea. Another light faltered, fighting for existence before being snuffed. The stain stilled, remaining motionless until the living wolves have reached the other side.

A grave feeling permeated the air, and without notice the hanging stars were rapidly plucked from existence. The growing mass effortlessly ate the starlight as it sinuously weaved over the water and to the shore, squirming in layers as it crawled ravenously toward the four souls, darting forward too quickly for reaction. Glossy obsidian vines twisted up each of their ankles, growing in density as it constricted their limbs and rifled through their fur with the touch of fervid fingers. Struggle was futile as it constricted around their chests and stomach, crawling lovingly up their neck to cradle their skull while probing toward sensitive orifices. It was deaf to any screams as it shoved its tendrils deep into their esophagus's, sliding to root deep in the bowls of their stomachs and every fiber of their being. The pungent scent of illness tainted the air as it disappeared inside of them, finally allowing for a gasp of air.

But the war has just begun The earthen brute hadn't been apart of the pack very long. His mind pondered the plans that were sure to come, he needed patience. He knew that opportunities wouldn't just be offered to him on a silver platter. He hated being in a pack surrounded by others, he hated the presence of others in general. Being among wolves made him feel uncomfortable, odd. He'd much rather be tearing their fur to shreds. Ever since coming to these lands, his quench to murder slowly increased. The image of blood dripping and staining his cream colored fur elated him.

Then he met Mars.

The Earthen king seemed to have an effect on Akuma, one he very much disliked. His heart fluttered and warmth spread throughout his body. For once he didn't feel forced to act, the male was truly enjoyable to speak too. The thought of killing him actually caused him to frown. He hated these thoughts and feelings. He wanted them gone. He needed to start training on taking the king down, first he planned to learn more about the other. This led to him stirring from his spot within the pack territory and following the scent of Mars. It led him away from the gaia and towards... who knows where.

As he grew closer, his eyes drifted up to the sky to observe the magnificent light show occurring. It stirred a sense of awe within the hardened male, taking a moment to admire the colors. He turned his gaze to the bridge ahead of him, and on the other side was Mars. For some reason he felt a rush of enthusiasm rush through him. He took off at a sprint across the bridge, tongue lolling from his mouth.

The lights above are suddenly plucked out of existence and Akuma halts, gaze lifting upwards. His eyes are shrouded with a hesitance. He turns his eyes back down, and what he sees is horrifying. A black thick substance is covering the leader, clawing its way up his body.

"MARS!" he yowls, his paws carrying him swiftly, heart pounding within his chest.

He is forced to watch as the substance covers the face of the brute, this only arises further alarm within him. Can he breathe? Is it suffocating him? Akuma feels weird being worried for another being, its odd. But his body and voice is acting on its own, not letting him give a moment to think this through. He slides onto the island just as the black substance disappears within the earth king. Akuma was too late to remove whatever was on Mars. All that is left is the rotten smell of sickness, plague. He shakily stands up, nostrils flaring at the scent that seems to claim Mars' very body. It causes him to stagger slightly, still trying to catch his breath and allow the air back in his burning lungs. When he's regained his breath, he strays closer to Mars, nose reaching out to brush against the kings flank in a tentative greeting.

"Mars, I witnessed the black substance escaping into your body, you reeks of plague and sickness. " his words are spoken softly, hoping not to alarm the other. "How do you feel? That was... terrifying. Maybe we should leave? It doesn't feel safe here after that. " at this point Akuma doesn't even know if he is faking anymore. The concern within him feels real, causing his chest to restrict. He didn't like it at all. What was this land, or this wolf, doing to him?

Light and shadow mingled with divine intention, weaving webs of frivolous beauty and temptation incarnate. Kvothe, like several others, had heard and heeded Hoshiko's whisper, his mortal path permanently detoured to the burgeoning bridge spanning tumultuous water. As the aurora bled out into the sky above, Kvothe was silhouetted by shifting shades and duplicitous darkness. His feet made damp fissures in the saturated sand, his weight impressed upon the starlit land bridge. His nose was suffused with the sharp scent of salt - and something else, something he could not name. None of the wolves he observed were familiar, and so he did not approach the otherwise companionable throng; no, this was an experience he was not likely to repeat, and so he stole the opportunity to absorb and observe what he could. Each sight was a new piece of data - each sound, each scent, another page in his mental library. The clockwork machine counted and catalogued this divine night with dastardly glee, downloading even the most minute details into the mainframe that was Kvothe's consciousness.

He maintained his silence even when he ducked beneath the illuminated gates, mute even as he touched down on the newly revealed isle. He was silent even as the lights flickered, as the stars winked out and receded. He was silent even as the darkness took form, even as it swooped down to attack and assimilate with the four first-come to the virgin territory. The mechanized man's eyes widened, twilight colors twirling with shock and surprise - and intrigue - as the shadow was given both body and unholy purpose. Hackles rose along his spine as he watched the plague-rider force its way into the bodies of those so unlucky as to have drawn its attention. Unnoticed, unclaimed, Kvothe fell back, his usually confident mien shaken by this blackened devil. Was this a thing native to Doutaini? Was it a denizen of the dread isle? Or was this some sort of divine power? A growl parted his lips, a musical rumble of thunder, as he firmed his spine against uncertainty. Speculation would offer no answers - and it certainly would not aid those who had been 'chosen'.

Emotions stirred within the rogue's frozen heart - and were ruthlessly culled like the sacrificial sheep they were. He would not flee from this thing, and nor would he pretend at false concern for those now struggling to breathe against the shadow's burning caress. He did not know these wolves, had no vested interest in their wellbeing - and so he would merely observe, unmoved by their plight. He was no hero, no kin to those gathered upon the isle. He was the self-designated witness, the stalwart statue against the dark. He would watch, and he would observe, and he would catalog this data - and that was all.

there is peace, quiet, and silence around mars as he leans into the tree. not that mars will ever speak of this, but tears run down his face while he is alone. his ears fall to his head as he thinks of the man, his head nuzzles into the tree for a second. "rest well, king." his voice is quiet, shushed as he hears footsteps behind. he sniffles before looking up to the tree, giving the weakest smile ever before he fixes his composure. the tears in his eyes fade before he looks back to cassiopeia, giving a small smile, "why yes, it is. this island was a gift from the goddess of spirits.." that was what hoshiko meant when all the feuding had to be done for something. all this was created by the gods. his eyes then find the earth scion who finds her way to the tree, speaking of the old king as well. a smile turns onto his lips as he wanders near her, closer, giving a nod as he helps her, pulling /growth/ flowers out of the ground for the fallen king. he matches his flowers with hers, the same breed and color. he does not stop, making them pop up until there is a small circle around the tree. mars feels the nausea sway in him, but not as bad as meliae had it. he pushes to her side, in case she fell. the words are head by him, his head lifts, eyes closing as a howl leaves his lips. he hears another woman join them, his open lips curve into a smile as he howls for the fallen king, their fallen king, earth's best. little did he know, the lights started to fade, and oil like tentacles work their way around his feet. when he feels it, his eyes snap open, was someone wrapping him in vines? he looks down only to find the tentacles choking around his throat and forcing his mouth open further. a gagged snarl tries to force its way out, but no avail. his eyes frantically search for help, but the others are engulfed too. mars' eyes spring with tears as he watches melaie get wrapped along with cassiopeia and freya. his teeth try to clamp down, but they cannot. mars tries to fight, vines sprouting up from the ground, the three vines make their way to meliae first and try to rip at the black vines that tangled her. his legs tremble, weakly as he feels whatever it was, pushed down his throat. sickness hits him, from the powers and the plague that was being forced into him. his legs shake as he hears a call, his eyes roll back as he hits the ground when he is released. his eyes stay shut, mouth open, as he smells of sickness. a weak moan comes from him as he hears akuma's voice. "a..aku..ma.. g..get the women... get meliae... cas... la..and." he sputters for air, paws desperately trying to cling to the ground. the vines of his, fall dead to the ground, poisoned by the plague as well. his eyes open barely, reddened from crying. "i..i. will follow.." he sputters, eyes flickering to his scion. a whimper leaves his lips as he presses a paw to her leg.

Cassiopeia, Akuma.

COME AWAY LITTLE LAMB COME AWAY TO THE SLAUGHTER

agony in her guts, a vicious toll that saps the vitality from beneath the skin and leaks malady into her veins -- poison strong and true, and a bitter headache that flashes in her skull. the sweet fragrance of those dainty blooms is almost too overpowering in the face of her nausea; she swallows thickly, a hotness in the depth of her throat like tears and sickness.

she is felled by this expenditure of power and, for a moment, the woman props her skinny hip against that of Mars as she struggles to breathe. she feels like driftwood in the tide - tossed and turned upon the wave crest - or as if the ground has turned to air.

in her sickly delirium, she does not feel the vines at her throat until it is far too late.

the wrongness of it clings within her, a malicious seed, a transgression against the apex nature of the wolf. some terrible calamity has befallen her in the grip of darkness and she knows, instinctively, inside herself she is not alone. the gaia does not linger in the fibre of her hair. ( she is death's handmaiden, disease on her breath, something dark in her eyes as the world snaps into focus about her. )

'don't touch me.' her teeth snap about the words, but the woman is stiller than stone. her jaw trembles with the effort of self-restraint, and in small increments, she hunches herself closer to mars, shoulders pinned high as her hackles raise.

But the war has just begun The image of the black vine-like substance escaping into Mars' and the others bodies replay in his head. A shiver races up his spine, his breath hitching. Akuma stared down at the sick smelling wolves below him. They looked so weak. So vulnerable. He could rip their throats from their bodies and they wouldn't even be able to fight back. His tongue lashes out to nervously lick his nose. Although, what would be the point of killing them here? There would be no fun in a easy win. Although there is still a small part of him that is whispering things to him. Maybe he shouldn't kill. Maybe he should start anew?

Akuma was snapped from his thoughts as Mars weakly spoke. His ears struggled to catch every word spoken. Luckily he was able to understand what his alpha was asking of him. He shook his head, a grim look upon his features.

"I cannot do that king, no one will be left behind." his words were spoken with determination as he leaned down, ignoring the words of the female beside Mars. He didn't know her, but she was of Earth and meant a big deal to Mars. They looked so weak, they could barely move from the looks of it. There was no way they would walk back alone. "Please forgive me for ignoring your demands, m'lady"

As his words were spoken, he would crouch down and attempt to slip his head beneath Meliae's stomach. If he was successful, then he would shimmy her onto his back. She didn't weigh too much, he had certainly carried heavier. He then approached Mars, attempting to do the same with him. If he was successful once more and the earthen leader didn't try to move off his back then he would stand up. He grunted slightly at the new weight added on by Mars. he was certainly heavier then the female. His muscles flexed beneath his fur as he took slow and steady steps towards the rouge female. She laid unconscious on the ground, completely oblivious to her surroundings. With a determined glare, he bent his head down and took a hold of her scruff. He tried not to bite down too hard, but if he did then... oh well. At least she wouldn't feel it at the moment. When he deemed that he had gotten a good grip onto her scruff, he would lift his head up. She was certainly lighter then the weight on his back, heck she was lighter then the earth girl he had picked up.

He stood still for a second, allowing his body to adjust to the weight of the three wolves and preparing himself for what was about to come. His muscles flexed, his eyes narrowed into slits as his claws dug into the ground. He was certain he would pull a muscle or tear one. Though something in his mind was screaming it would be worth it. Once again, if they did not try to fall from his back or anything, he would nod his head.

"Please prepare yourselves, m'lady and king. Do try to stay still, I am trying to do this in a single trip. I beg of you not to fight against me." he pleaded softly through the scruff of the whitish unconscious female.

If he heard no obligations, then he would start the torturous walk off the island. He walked in a backwards manner, walking backwards onto the bridge. He did this so that the unconscious female would not be a tripping hazard or turn his head in a awkward way.Plus if he did it this way there was less resistance Suddenly he spots another, nearly unnoticed due to the dark color of her fur. Struggling, he gently lays the white female down and hurries forward as much as he could with the weight on his back towards the dark female rouge. He crouches down with much difficulty and shoves his head beneath her body-- if she would allow him too of course-- and shimmed her onto his shoulders. She was light, but with the combination of the other two wolves on his back it truly weighed him down. He struggled back to where the Cass was and once again took a backwards position. He gently took a hold of her scruff, taking trembling steps backwards . His steps were steady as he reached the stone bridge that connected Doutaini to the island. He didn't want to risk dropping the already ill or injured wolves. So, he would take things slow and steady. His breathing was already labored and he wasn't even a quarter of the way across the bridge. Akuma closed his eye briefly, doing something he thought he would never do; praying.

Oh god of earth; Kaede. I was a unnoble and unhonourable man full of nothing but lies upon entering these lands. i still am in many ways. But oh Kaede, if Mars' is right about you being real; and if you are hearing me now, then please give me the strength, let us reach the end of this bridge safely. I am changing, and I swear if you give me this wish then... then I will never kill another soul without reasoning. I will serve your pack with my life. Please Kaede, please.

"Bite Me. "

Summary: Akuma has briefly spoken to Mars, asked Meliae for forgiveness, then attempted to slip both Meliae and Mars onto his back. If successful, he would then approach Cassiopeia who is unconscious and grab a hold of her scruff. If and only if he is successful with all of these things will he start to walk backwards towards the bridge. He will then see Freya and gently lay Cassiopeia down and go lift Freya onto his back if she allows it. He then goes abck to where he was, carrying Mars, Freya and Meliae on his back while dragging Cassiopeia by the scruff. To end it, he prays to Kaede and begs for him to give him the strength to carry them across, and that they have safe passage to the other side
