Amidst the auburn glow upon the trees, swaying lightly with the soft wind that brought a knife's edge along its weaving path; cold was its breath in the might of Autumn, slowly digging deeper the longer one stayed in its frosty embrace. Fresh, a crisp intake of the dawn enchanted air brought life back to the wandering soul, careful steps atop the broken leaves, a graveyard of beauty; death is kind to the tall plants that expel life. It was here where Xaviere would rest, the child of the season that bid farewell to life and gave mesmerism to expiration, or have a little fun. Days past of gathering health, putting on weight and traversing the caves of the Enigma's domain, though of little entertainment, little bloodshed or hunting, little fighting or learning; oh how dull.

A bodice of sand and Autumnal leaves lower to the ground, abdomen almost skinning the very tallest blades of grass pushing their way through the heavy foliage, right forepaw hovering above the ground; all limbs crouched and bent at the knee, her tail of long strands held high in the air. For, in front of the inexperienced warrior, mere metres away, although, making more of a racket than her own carefully placed paws, stumbled a monochrome creature with legs of stumps and a flat body. It was by chance that the pup had stumbled upon the racoon, she dare not move in these quiet moments as it rumbled around in search of food of its own; although, quite unsure of when the perfect time to pounce would be.Stagnant was her breath, still in the silence, time both seemingly dragging behind and storming in front, her mind unable to concentrate, eyes locked on her target yet her focus seemed to waver.

"You put too much weight on your paws," her voice would come, not aloud, but from within. "Relax, take a breath and relax your legs." Th enigmatic Queen steps from the shadows, her own frame hunkered down as she eyes, not the child, but the prey. Not to say the girl in question did not interest Rue. Xaviere hadn't been present at the meeting, and thus must have been recruited shortly thereafter; and Ruellia was always interested in those that chose to don the violet gem. (They were hers, all of them, the ones mad as hatters, her dwellers of the dark.) But brief observation of the situation revealed the girl's intention; hunting, and what luck that the Enigma Queen herself happened to be on her merry way home.

And she was merry, even hunkered down with her eyes eagle sharp and serious, she held mirth on her lips. The pale woman had come from the Mire, and hints of swamp-water could still be caught lingering around the overwhelming Cavern scent, and her silvered paws were damp. Despite her disheveled appearance, Ruellia exudes confidence, and vanity, and the grin she shoots towards the, likely, confused girl is almost cocky. Sure, she could have taken a moment, introduced herself in a proper manner and explain the reason her voice echoed in Xaviere's head, but Rue preferred this. Trial by fire. The glance is brief, but she nods toward the raccoon before turning her attention towards it. A head-ache builds as she, again, connects their minds, "When you take your next breath, make it deep. Hold it, and listen."

She would let the child choose when to take the first leap.

"She wears strength and darkness equally well. The girl has always been half goddess, half hell."

In that moment when the passing of a second would meet its next destination, when the particles forming in the air would take a sudden leap of faith, a mingle to a song only heard by themselves, the moment where autumn met winter and winter greeted spring, where dawn would make way for the day and dusk the settling of the night dwellers; in the the moment of time passing the half pup would wonder about what ifs and the could bes. Those moments were fleeting, hard to grasp, always out of reach, perhaps it was her mind toying with itself or perhaps it was punishment on...on what?

It was curious nature, one that would straighten ears and tighten muscles, widen eyes and send the hackles upon a neck to attention; searching for a sound that did not hold a wave like all the others, did not mingle with the chirping of the birds or the rustling of the leaves. She had not grown used to the way words interrupted thoughts, a nagging at the back of ones cranium, persistent and pushing, if she had mastered such a thing than Xaviere would waste little time finding out who disturbed her. But alas, she could not. Instead, she would listen, her eyes unmoving for her focus returned with her insatiable desire to do good in the eyes of others, not that she should care. Taking valuable moments to breath, each breathe relaxing her tout limbs and sending a sense of calm over the small wolf. Not giving in to the temptation of who stood there, who taught and demanded commands, nor the odour of the caverns, which were beginning to wear off on her, or something more muggy and less pleasant.

Upon her next expel of charred vapour she would obey, dragging oxygen into her vast lungs and holding, waiting, watching. Her opening was closing, the animal, blind to the animals leering at its every move, was taking its leave, sauntering without care further away. Annoyance began to seep into her bones, making every fracture of her actions impatient, eyes narrowing, body pushing upon her hind legs in position to pounce as her prey continued to leave. Forgotten almost in her bid to catch, to win, was the woman who had calmed her just moments prior. Pushing off from the ground, unaware of her total surrounding, careful only to follow her victim, her left paw would catch at a root as she began to land, inches from the now anxious and scurrying animal leaving faster than it had arrived, toppling over her head and collapsing inter her side. Able now to glimpse at the older wolf, but the failure of her catch burrowed into her. "You disturbed me" She would not rise, would not move.

Mother Nature!

Discomfort fills the air, thickening as if a fog has rolled through. It grips at your chest and lungs and chills the air around you-- nothing seems safe. Though the sun is still shining, the wind still rustling through the leaves, there is an uncanny offness that is disquiet and unsettling. Somewhere in the near distance, a scream-- a shrill cry, a shriek. A rabbit, screaming, screaming as if in distress, though there is none to be had. The robins that perch above continue to stare with beady black eyes, seeming just as unsettled. Perhaps it would be best to move on from this place.

Rue stood still, her very breath bated as she stared down the potential prey. The psychic connection between she and the youth remained, and there is a small glimmer of pride at the girl's beginning behavior. Xaviere didn't balk at Rue's sudden presence, something that could not be said for some adults when met with the enigmatic Queen's shadowed powers. Rue could feel the girl's desire for this accomplishment, and felt an immediate kinship; all Rue wanted was to make her family, her god proud. Perhaps, in time, Xaviere's desire to be good could be molded to fit well in Enigma. For now, however, there was much to learn. She watches as the girl's opportunity closes, the fat little beast already growing weary of this particular spot. Annoyance wavered the psychic link, and Rue knows the girl's failure. Still, the queen watches the girl's movements, eyeing the way Xaviere lept at the creature with fervor, only to find herself eating dirt, as it were.

Ruellia sighs, not in annoyance or even disappointment, but rather, as a mean to release the tension in her joints. She knows that particular meal was lost, and quickly pulls herself into a more comfortable position. By the time Xaviere pulled herself up, Rue's enigmatic gaze was upon her, grin growing cheshire in nature at the girl's insistence. "The lady doth protest too much," she says, her voice musical and teasing, which was echoed in the glitter of her sea-foam eyes. She is not bothered by the girl's blame, rather, finds it almost endearing. "You did well, right up to the end. Lesson two; pay attention to the animal's movements- if they look to be leaving, know your opportunity is lost. It is better to save energy for the next potential kill, than to waste it all in such a silly display." She speaks with clarity, her voice bell-bright and still good-humored, but just as she was about to introduce herself...

Hackles raise as the air grew thick with unseen tension, and even the lady of the dark could feel a shiver run down her spine as beady, black eyes stared from the trees. Rue dislikes this foreign feeling, and, being the pious woman she was, felt immediately it was the gods warning them. The rabbit's screech was the final straw. Abruptly she stands, shaking her coat to rid herself of fluttering hackles, and speaks- like a clap of sound in this disquiet, "Right, I think that's our cue." Already she begins to walk away, pausing briefly to invite the girl to her side. "I'll walk you home...?" There's an upward tilt to her voice, the question hanging as she makes to exit; who are you, dear?

"She wears strength and darkness equally well. The girl has always been half goddess, half hell."

She could have respected the woman, taken the appearance to heart and enjoyed the two hearts beating together within the confines of the trees, both united by a singular animal. Yet she could not, she had arrived during the most spectacular of times and dwindled it down to nothing past shameful body embraced by roots and foliage, beating of a sun the only confirmation to fire in her blood, dancing together in a tango of heat and embarrassment. She had not done well, heightened in each movement lessened by the Enigma wolf, each breath she loosened to the sky and heaving out a sigh as she stood there watching. Xaviere's own patience would soon grow thin within herself also, she would only need each wrong action made in front of another thinking mind to quicken the pace of her own downward spiral. As nonchalant smile spread lazily across her maw her cranium shall begin to be plagued with dark spells, clouds hazing out intelligent thoughts.

Rising now onto her paws, to stand with faux reverence for herself and face the creature that, unbeknownst to the young pup, ruled over the entirety of the caverns and stood above her followers on a pedestal of hierarchy. "The master doth...probably be right." At first attempting to mock her words, set now upon her haunches and insecure paws criss-crossing self-consciously over themselves time and time again - without the knowledge of the bodice which held them - forced smile mingling precariously upon her ebony lips. Though it took little time for the humour of Ruellia's words to fall from her own lips and, though the smile remained, she would agree. If only she had listened, done as she was told. Yet it put too much trust, what if she had been wrong, what if even the elder wolf had gotten it wrong? Silly, silly, silly. The words in constant replay, a broken record, yes yes yes ; she was. "Ah, important advice indeed." The words felt foreign on her tongue, limbs bending as she played with a bow, teasing the ancient words, the old style, something she didn't truly know the meaning for and yet followed along. As in the way of a pup her mind kept changing, disappointment from the broken hunt, laughter lacing her voice from the teasing and her mind stirring with everything she had done wrong.

It was when her chest seized, breath hitching, that she made a choice : excitement. The grasping mist, suffocating almost, unnerving and yet she wanted to delve into it, let it engulf her and down out her senses. The rabbits shriek something that would be laughter upon her lips and brighten the glow within her eyes should she not have company, she wanted to turn towards it, embrace the sound, hold onto the alarm that slowly crept through the trees. In all this she had forgotten Enigma's most prized use, their ability to listen to the whispers of the mind, she could merely request in silent motions to leave and let her name linger upon the air, waiting to be taken by the ashen wolf. "...Xaviere," a name in trade for advice for she had forgotten, had not taken it upon herself to keep track of every small detail. "Let's follow," quiet as her form turned from the already departing woman, eager to chase the disconcerting noise that trailed unsettlement to her companion.

OOC ~ That's no problem, hun! Also, sorry, my muse right now is not very high.
