Time and again he had imagined returning once more to the land his forefathers had called home. The place where his life had been shaped, where defeat and victory walked hand in hand. Here, where good came with the bad and vice versa, where his roots were lain and where he knew that he would, one day, come back to. And here he was. On the edge of the world, of the life he had left behind. Something pulled at him with such force that he could not ignore the feeling any longer. He had tried, he had longed to forget, to restart his life elsewhere, but he was tied too tightly to this place. Everything he had ever done had been for this, for the life he had forged and left. But there could be no leaving, not forever. He knew that he would once more stand upon the ground of his home. Heartache and misery mingled with glee and contentment as pale blue eyes looked across the land of Doutaini.

Jaws clenched as his breath rapidly increased. He felt anxious and excited at the same time. Fearful and confident of what would await him. All the same feelings he had felt before, but this time, he returned for himself, not for duty or honor, but simply his desire to walk again upon the earth he had once cherished. One step then another, and the aging male would finally cross that invisible line into the Kuro Pit. He looked around and found the place where he had lain battered and near death, where his daughter had found him and saved him. His eyes close and his head bows. Pain. Emotional and physical pain. He had failed so many in his arrogance to uphold his name, the family name. But he had not come here to rekindle that burden.

He came because this was home, and no matter how hard he tried, no other place would ever be the same. He was starting afresh in a way, though he knew his past ghosts would no doubt come back to haunt him. He would make amends where he could, and where he could not, he would accept his fate, deal and move on. And move on he did, from the place of his last return, from the place of his haunted past. Each step took him deeper into the pits, the stench at once repulsive and satisfying at the same time. He moved with a halting limp, a lasting effect of the spar that almost killed him. The muscles there had healed, but the scar tissues pulled tight and restricted his movement. A smile crept across his lips with a sardonic lilt. A bitter sweet homecoming.

Walking around the Pits would be Bjorn new hobbie, besides patroling the boring borders of rebel. Well, not so boring now that he waits to see Devil May Cry around. Around this dead place, yet filled with fresh and old scents, the ebony warrior just expects to see new, unfamiliar faces. Faces of those from outside seeking a new life, a new road to follow. A new destiny.

Yet, this was very unexpected. This face... Was not so unfamiliar. He saw it, a few times before. Maybe. Bjorn couldn't actually remember. But his dark, strong frame approaches the stranger-not-so-stranger, expression of someone very confused. Excuse me... He said a few meters far from this pitch-black guy. His eyes were as bright as Bjorn's. But he is much older. Have we met before? He asked only, waiting for an answer. His position was tall, head, ears and tail, like watching from above. SOmeone important, even that he is not.

here we are again. mars looks from side to side as he trots up the sides of the pits. a soft hum comes from his lips, tired from all this traveling, to and from the pits. his ears perk as he yawns, but this is all for kaede. he wants more members for kaede, to make the demi-god of the forest proud of him. there are two scents that remind him of the inner bowels of doutaini. he makes his way towards the scents. his paws trot towards them, arriving beside a rebel man that he knows from somewhere. his eyes settle on the older man, for he has seen him before too, he knows him from somewhere. "welcome to doutaini, i'm mars, of the earth pack." he murmurs, trying to keep his focus on that the man is new, not that he knows him from somewhere. his head cocks to the side, had he known him from the past life of his? one from the violence, no. his scent is somewhere in doutaini and bjorn's question relays in his head. so, he had been here before. his eyes settle on the man, smiling, "but, i'm sure you already know where you are." he speaks, sitting on his hind haunches.

WILD FIRE

"Athos Thor," the panther from the ridge approaches slowly, a slink to her step and a noticeable limp in her front right leg, scabs, obviously from teeth, wrap around it from ankle to knee joint. Healing, but still it aches. There are scabs along her neck, though these she had forgotten about, it gives her a wild look from the outside. "It's been some time, friend," she says to him as gently, she comes to a halt beside Bjorn. She would seem more haggard since he last saw her, the hair on her face had only just started growing back, it still left half of her expression naked. Scars lick up and down her legs and across her belly, her ears singed back to half way gruesomely. Still, she offers him that iconic smirk of hers, welcoming if it could so be called that. "Are you home for good?" She asks him, her tail flicking into her leg before stilling, she'd turn to regard Mars out of politeness, before those chartreuse eyes rest on Athos all together. There was much history between them and she had been concerned when he'd disappeared. But what with the ridge burning and everything that followed, she'd not had the time to think about him lately. She was glad now though, that she'd at least be able to welcome him home.

Lillian didn't usually like to visit the Kuro Pits. The devastated land and its constant gloom that hung over it didn't sit well with the young she-wolf. She preferred to keep her distance when she could. The only reason she found herself wandering through the muddy terrain was her quest to find and study more herbs. Practically self-trained, she spent the majority of her time travelling to discover new plants. Whenever she came across something new - which happened quite often - she would collect the herb and take it back to her den to study. Whereas her storage room had been empty when she first created the den, it now held numerous types of plants.

Lillian hadn't been expecting much plant growth in to the Pits, so she wasn't surprised to find much. She recognized some Velvet Dock and Blackberry, but it was sparse. She was just about to turn around and abandon her visitation to the dead land when she saw a cactus-like plant that she hadn't seen before. Curious, Lillian let her paws bring her toward the succulent. Upon closer inspection, tan flowers could be seen rowing from the stems. Their stench made Lillian crinkle her nose, but she carefully plucked a few, careful to avoid the thorns present on the stems.

Now satisfied, Lillian turned to begin her journey back to her den in the far away Gelid. However, she was once again stopped in her tracks. Far in the distance she could see a small gathering of a few wolves. She raised her nose to search for their scents, but the flowers within her mouth were too overpowering to pick up anything. Deciding the Gelid could wait a little longer, Lillian shifted into a lope in the direction of the wolves, flowers still held firm in her jaw.

It wasn't long before she was close enough to make out the individuals. Three were strangers to Lillian, but the recognition of the fourth immediately turned her jog into a sprint. The she-wolf arrived only a few moments later. Her cry of joy was muffled from the flowers in her mouth, but the muffled "Athos!" was clear enough to make out. Lillian stopped just short of the older wolf, harnessing the urge to crash into him in delight. Finally setting the flowers down in front of her paws, she flashed her uncle a bright smile. "We've missed you so much! Are you coming back to Ice? You can come live with me while you get settled back in!" All of the words tumbled out of Lillian's mouth as she let her excitement get the best of her, something she knew she would be embarrassed for later.

"Give me space and I will grow. Hold me down and I will fight."

She followed. Knowing full well where her brother was headed. It made her angry, angry with him for wanting to come back, wanting to succumb to the forces that drew him here, and angry with herself for not being strong enough to simply let him go, to forget about this place, and him. It was something she just couldn’t do. He was there for her when she needed him, and now she owed him. It stuck in her craw, but she knew he needed her now. He wasn’t as strong willed as her. He wasn’t able to simply let go and forget. Not like her. Bitterness pierced her heart as she approached the already gathered wolves. Like vultures circling a rotting corpse. She moved with precision and grace, with purpose and strength. Her appearance much changed from when she was last here. That wolf was dead and gone, the name only remained. There were rips in her ears and a map of scars along her once so perfect features.

Pale eyes, the mirror of her brothers, shone with anger, not excitement. Her frame walked up beside Athos, brushes against his side as she stares at the wolves gathered. Her gaze shifting almost lazily from one to the other. She hated this. She longed to be away, far away, back where she had finally found herself. Away from the lies of the Gods. She speaks not a word, simply staring, constantly wondering if Athos would indeed stay. The young Ice wolf she knows, she is family, blood, yet her plea is like nails on a chalk board. Would he truly go back to Ice? Could he? She knew there and then that she could not, even if Athos did decide to go there. No, if she would be bound to this land, she would not dwell within the Ice lands again. It was then that she looked more closely at the two Rebel wolves and began to think of her future.

Mother Nature!

There's an eerie feeling that falls over you. Despite the pit being void of much vegetation, aside from the gnarled tree that seems to be a landmark of the crater, there is the feeling of eyes watching you. Perhaps they watch from the sky, or they are beside you, but whatever causes the feeling it is unknown and intangible.

It was strange, he had almost feared that he would be shunned, attacked even, though he didn’t know exactly why. His failures followed him wherever he went, maybe it was these ghouls that planted such thoughts into his mind. He took a slow, steadying breath, the stinking sweetness of the pits filling his nostrils. And there it was. The scent of another. He turned his head slightly and watched the male approach. A stab of recognition pierced his thoughts, though a name eluded him. And it seemed he was not the only one. Words carried easily upon the air and Athos looked at the younger wolf for a moment before replying. "It is entirely possible. I was born here, lived here, Doutaini is… my home." He spoke the last two words with a quiet reverence as though he offered up a prayer to the very Gods he had turned his back upon.

Another came, a green pendant around his neck. Earth! He instantly thought of Briar, of the debt he owed the wolf. He gave the wolf a polite incline of his head. "Thank you Mars, tell me, does Briar fare well?" He would seek him out, he would thank him for his help, he would repay him. It is then that words, so familiar and yet so alien catch his attention. Pale eyes watch as Charlotte approaches and he offers her a warm smile. She has changed, but then she was always on the wild side, a trait which had attracted him to her in the first place. "So much for any anonymity. " He almost laughed, his eyes smiling. "Indeed, it has been. Though perhaps not long enough. It is hard to tell for sure." His gaze rests upon her and wonders what had happened to her, her fur patchy and bold, her form littered with scars.

He would of asked had they been alone, but he would not draw attention to her surrounded by others. His thoughts drifted and truly pondered his answer. "I am home. For now, that is all that I can say." He dare not make promises he could not keep. And besides, another approached, cutting off any more words he may have wanted to say. It seemed he would receive a homecoming he wished for after all. Family! Lillian raced towards him and he took flight knowing she was within ice. He hoped that her Mother and Father were there too. His words caught in his throat. He could not answer with a lie, he would not raise expectations. "I think not Lillian. The Gelid belongs to another now. I would not be welcome there. But… I shall visit." That was all he could promise her right now for he suddenly felt uneasy, as though his every word, his every action was being scrutinized. Did the Gods look upon him with discontent?

Stretching at the opening of his makeshift den, Keston loitered for a moment before venturing forward for another trip to Kuro Pit. He had spent a great deal of time here lately and longed to be reunited with Cerulean Waters, but his promise to Kei encouraged him to pursue one last trip before indulging in his own desires. Happy to oblige, Keston set off from the nearby den towards the sunken pit. It was an odd design choice by Doutaini’s gods to be the welcoming face of the wondrous world beyond the western edge, but Keston was not here to question the whims or intents of gods—and deduced the divinity simply wished to encourage a sense of mystery to newcomers on their arrival. A typical smile sat upon his features as he scaled down the sloping wall and landed with a splash into the muddied earth, spraying the golden-cream undersides and limbs of his body with grisly discoloration. Regardless, the lion-wolf continued with a light toss of his tawny mane to navigate between the lingering wolves that found themselves here.

There was a rather large gathering off to his right that drew his attention, though the number of wolves from other packs discouraged him at first. It was through a spark of curiosity when he heard the mention of the name “Thor” (hadn’t that been what the man was asking about at the Stardust Festival?), combined with the presence of a woman that seemed to despise she was here. Scars lined her body and enhanced the beauty of her features as the golden man shuffled forward on heavy steps, cerulean eyes shifting among the crowd as he noted a few familiar faces. A handsome smile reached across his lips as he lowered his head in greeting to them all. “Hello and good day, everyone—my name is Keston Lioncourt, Kei’s ambassador from the Water pack.” He explained briefly before his attention shifted towards Elsinor momentarily, the mystery surrounding her consuming his inquisitive nature. As he waited with an anticipatory breath, a chill wrapped around his neck with an eerie sensation that something, or someone, was watching him. He whipped his head over his shoulder to look, only to find no one there as tension worked into a thoughtful brow.

She had been gone for some time, pondering life and what she really wanted. She couldn't believe how much time had passed, how long it had been since she'd seen her parents. It just so happened that it was that day, she decided to waltz back into the pits and return home to Doutaini. Born beneath the cooking sun at the top of the red mountains, to the ice caps of the Gelid, to the desolate wasteland and beyond. Althea notices the congregation of wolves as she arrives at the edge of the pits' bowl, the slope dangling below her fidgeting paws. Dark wolves took over the balance, from here she could see a couple of pendants but mostly they were without. Charlotte was one of them. She could have picked her mother out of even the largest of crowds, apart from the fact that she towered over all of them, the bony structure of the ridge woman stood out more than anything. She descends into the recruiting grounds, her paws muddying instantly, she doesn't much mind the muck and grime, where she'd just come from was a lot worse than that.

Slowly, carefully, she makes her way towards the gathering. Closer, she can see that recruiters from Water, Ice and Earth were there to greet the newcomers, it is only as she approaches from beside them; that she realizes those travellers were actually family. A reunion! "Papa! Momma!" Althea's grin is untamed as she stands between them and off to the side, completing a circle of wolves as they gather to welcome Athos and Elsinor home. Her crystal orbs glance from Charlotte to the once Ice King, "aunt Elsi!" She howls, though she keeps her voice down a notch so as not to bring too much attention to herself. She couldn't believe they were all here, she feels the relief, a world lifting off her shoulders. A woman now, she stands full grown and bulky against the daylight, dark as a raven and built like a machine. Her journey had been strenuous out there, but gosh; was she glad to be home.

notes; Althea's back! :D

it is right after Charlotte shows and speaks his name that he remembers when anaxagoras fought for ice, athos lost, athos rested in earth. mars looked to the rebel woman, greeting her with a bow of his head. his eyes returned back to the former ice king, his eyes trail over him. a pup of ice shows then another woman, the arrival of this man seems to bring many. there is an eerie feeling among them, like someone is watching. mars' eyes swivel, looking around and letting out a gruff growl to the left of them- to emptiness before he shakes it off and is returned to reality but athos' question of briar. his sights fall to the former ice king and he gives a weak smile, shaking his head. "well, he is good. he is not among us anymore, he passed not too long ago. though, i heard he has been around the valley- his spirit that is." mars speaks, eyes softening as he speaks of the former earth king, his heart yearns for the man to visit them again. 'Briar, come home, to earth. we could use the wisdom' the young alpha thinks before his eyes flicker between the group, bjorn not speaking as he straightens himself, greeting keston with a nod, "i know that you rested in earth for awhile, honestly, i would love for you to rest there again, if you'd like. i know briar would have liked it that way." mars knew that briar had trusted the man- obviously, or he would have not let him into the gaia. "but, you follow where you want. just know the gaia is always open to you, still." mars gives a nod to athos, "welcome home, athos."

It was a good thing to see him again, she'd missed him somewhat, he was after all; the father of her first litter. She returns his smile warmly, her ears flickering softly as she curls her hind end to take a seat, chortling at his mention of things being anonymous up until she arrived. Surely he knew his legacy went further than that. A young ice wolf bounds into the pits shortly after she arrives, a Lillian, she hears Athos call her. She sits and waits patiently, chartreuse eyes swinging to Bjorn before Elsinor arrives and steals her attention. She is silent, stoic in the way she waits by her brothers side, though Charlotte herself doesn't quite know the relation, she can tell they are of blood. She nods at the woman, her ears bowing to her head, but it is around then that she feels eyes on her. A whip of her head over her shoulder, as she notices many of the other wolves around her do, something was playing a trick on them. Still, she erects those large and torn ears, they swivel backwards to try and catch any approaching footsteps. She shakes her head for now, ignoring it. "Either way, it is good to see you," she tells him, waiting while others converse around her, Mars letting them all know that briar had passed away. It is news to her and instantly she thinks of Lypso'ru, it had been too long since they had caught up and surely that particular death would have shaken the little divine wolf.

Charlotte turns to acknowledge the arrival of a Water wolf, the one and only Keston Lioncourt. Her lips roll upwards in a smile, their fight all too fresh in her scarred mind. "Pleasure to see you again, mr Lioncourt," she purrs, always the terrible flirt, always playing a game or two. She was perhaps still a little salty that she had lost the tournament against the water king, but she had moved on from it nonetheless. "Athos," she begins, getting to her feet, there was one too many wolves down here today and she was beginning to feel uncomfortable. But before she can make a move, the familiar scent, and all too familiar but matured voice of her daughter rings out from beside her. "Althea?" She turns, wrapping herself protectively around the woman she had missed growing up, though would always be her baby. Her daughter. She steps back, a lump in her throat rising and blocking her lungs, it takes her a little while to swallow it. "Baby... please tell me you are coming home? and Athos, you are welcome at the Ridge, you and your family." She extends the offer with eyes that plead with her daughter, softly to her contain her dignity, and a welcoming pinch at the corners to Athos and Elsinor. She doubted they would come with her, having been elemental wolves their whole lives, but the offer still stood.

The healer couldn't help but feel disappointment at her Uncle's response. She couldn't quite understand why he wouldn't want to come home, but then again everybody had their own reasons. Lillian herself had been through a lot that had affected the way she made her decisions. Maybe it was the same for Athos. Either way, it was ultimately his decision. "Well, don't be afraid to stop by. I'm sure Mom and Dad would love to see you again." Yes, there was no doubt about that. Her parents, especially her father, had been troubled by the dark wolf's disappearance. Now that he had returned, she was sure their spirits would be lifted.

Before Lillian could say anything else, more wolves began to trickle in. Their small group was beginning to turn into a crowd. The she-wolf subconsciously curled into herself a little. The situation was growing a little uncomfortable, so she decided to remove herself from the center. Grabbing her flowers once more (and trying her best to ignore their scent), she stepped back to the outskirts of the gathered wolves. She didn't want to leave yet, but something seemed off. It felt as if someone or something was watching her. It made her skin crawl and sent a shiver down her spine. She looked around the group of wolves, but there was nothing else to be seen besides the dead wasteland.

"Give me space and I will grow. Hold me down and I will fight."
