Though he'd always been something of a wanderer, he'd usually stuck with places like the swamp or cemetery; places that others didn't usually visit. Old habits were hard to break: when he'd been a kid in these lands, laying low had meant he'd get away with screwing off and playing around. More importantly though, he'd learned how to hide when he'd last fled from Doutaini a few years ago (a lifetime ago) and into the wastelands beyond as a fugitive. It was funny, in a way, how things happened to come around full circle again- and at last, the one-eyed monk had come back home. He'd been planning on doing so for a while, had never really gotten around to do it- and had been bitten in the ass by wanderlust one more time.

Well, a combination of wanderlust, everything turning to shit in the wastelands monastery and in pursuit of his adopted daughter, who had left before he had, after he'd told her tales about Doutaini. Willy would turn up somewhere sooner or later, he supposed; she wasn't a stupid girl and they hadn't exactly parted on the best of terms; therefore he'd let her cool off for a few days or weeks and wasn't exactly worried about her whereabouts or well-being just yet. It was strange though, coming back home after all the time he'd been gone- and not heading straight for the swamp, which had been his old home; well, more of a home than anywhere else had been, at least.

Eventually, he'd have to look for everyone he'd left behind a lifetime ago. Hopefully, they wouldn't be dead or gone- and if luck was on his side, they wouldn't want him dead, either. Sure, they'd probably be pissed as hell, especially his mother, Tetra. Jason, too, if his brother was still alive. As far as he knew, both Morokei and Layomi were long-dead, so there was always the possibility that their ghosts would end up haunting him. Maybe. Atticus certainly wouldn't understand why he'd run away back then- hell, they'd probably end up fighting again, but that was a chance he was willing to take.

Everyone else? Other than the healers of Earth and Divine, everyone else would probably definitely be after his head again when they found out he was back. Which was exactly why he was putting off looking for anyone. It was a good idea to lay low and mind his own business for a while, maybe explore a little to become reacquainted with his homelands again. Sure, he'd have to find a job and somewhere to stay- eventually. Now was not the time to worry about things like that, though- now was the time to just kick back and relax for a little while.

His thoughts continued to wander aimlessly for a while before he allowed his chin to drop back onto one of the moss-covered, flat stones again. It was strange, but he'd never seen a waterfall before; not during the years spent in these lands- and certainly not in the barren wastes beyond. "I don't know what I'm doing!" Azelie's voice pierced the near-silence of the falls; frustration and confusion becoming vocalized for the first time. Such words usually led to one grand adventure, a discovery, or something of the like- or at least, they would have led to those things before. Maybe fate would once again show that it had a sense of humor and would lead him toward fun, excitement and discovery once again. Who knew?

The early summer afternoon sun blazed brilliantly from the canopy overhead; the hissing of the geysers and burbling of the flowing streams were at least not irritating to listen to. Azelie had decided he'd camp out here for a little while; the warmth here wasn't stifling yet and there were probably fish to be had, once he shook off his perplexed laziness and decided to actually try to go fishing. A sharp, harsh bark of disbelieving laughter broke through the incessant droning of the insects that buzzed nearby. Everything was still difficult to believe, to wrap his mind around completely.

icarus moved sleekly through the dense climate. his head shakes and his body shakes all the way down as he tries to push off the humidity that clings to him like flies to honey. it makes him growl as he pushes faster to the sound of water that would relieve him from the heat that was this place. it was like some kind of sauna. his demon eyes and white pelt stand out against the greens and the earthy colors that color the jinsyn waterfalls. before he reaches any sense of the water, he hears laughing. sweat drips down him as he looks to the left, his ice pendant standing proudly against his fur. steam was coming from geysers! how could anyone stand this? "so, are you like an old hermit or something? crazy so i should just keep moving along?" he smirks as he slinks past the wolf, going to his right as he sits at the base of another flat rock so the cool will seep into his fur. he misses the cold gelid. it makes his heart yearn to go back, and soon he will. but, he has to figure this place out. figure where the hell everything was. his demon eyes pour into the others, seeing that the wolf has a missing eye. it makes his head cock to the side, had it been lost in a fight? or been born with out it. "icarus voxxie. and surely i cannot continue to call you old hermit. unless you're into that or something." he smirks, irritation growing in his fur.

Right as he was starting to think this might have ended up being a decent place to just let his mind wander for a while and then take a nap, it seemed as though he was no longer alone in his sweltering sauna. Not that company was ever really refused, or necessarily a bad thing. The newcomer to the steam geysers was a young man, at least half his age, ivory-hued and sleek; sporting an amulet as well- the same kind of gleaming frost-diamond that the monk wore. So, there were others from the frozen north around! Though he had yet to visit the sierras, he had assumed that theirs was a miniscule dutchy with maybe a handful of other wolves around. It was interesting to be proven mistaken.

"A hermit? Oh, I could easily be one," He stated with an idle shrug, stretching lazily as he roused himself into a seated position; so as to not seem hospitible. "Don't think I've gone crazy yet, though- sorry, you're out of luck there," That was punctuated by an equally lazy, lopsided little smile. The newcomer made his way to the monk's blind side; which caused him to turn his head partially to keep the newcomer visible for now; until he was able to determine what his standing with the youngster might be- wouldn't have been good for the orange-eyed male to launch an ambush for whatever reason, after all. (That eye had been lost to torture in the wastelands beyond Doutaini two years ago; an interesting horror story.)

"A pleasure to meet you, Icarus. Call me what you will, if it pleases you, but I'm Azelie Hanks. So, what brings you to this little corner of nowhere in particular?" There was a hint of good-natured teasing in that raspy, gravelly voice; he meant no harm by his half-assed greeting as he thrust his chin outward at the steaming geysers and thick flora that stretched as far as the eye could see, "I guess 'just a traveler' wouldn't come this far out, right?"

a laugh erupts from his chest to his lips, demon eyes staying on the other icy-bound wolf. oh kiyoshi. a good choice. he thinks to himself, at least they have another smart-ass around. another sarcastic wolf, for it could not be only icarus in the gelid. his head shifts to where the steam blows out and he lets out a soft growl from his lips. how can anyone stand this fucking heat? it's insane. "ah well, if you need crazy, this place will give it to you. azelie, what a pleasure to meet you. well for one, it's too fucking hot to even think here, so i have no idea why the hell i'm here. yet, i need to learn the land." his eyes cast over to the man, his ears perked to where the water was sounding. it made them twitch and swivel. his tail nuzzles up to his rump as his mouth drops open into a pant. his fur is built for the cold- not for the steamy sauna of this place. he hoped there was nothing hotter than this, nothing with any more humidity, he would die in that case. his peachy eyes stay on the older wolf, eyes casting over him. "so. how'd you lose your eye? bad bet with a raven?" no bullshit. that's how icarus liked his conversations and straight up honesty. a smirk pulls to his lips as he laughs at his own sentence, oh. he should have been a comedian. his nose wrinkles and jaws snap at the bugs that fly near, growling ever-so quietly. it was annoying. this fucking rainforest or whatever the shit it was. hopefully, this would be a conversation worth it. worth him burning in hell.
