With each passing day, Jason was able to adjust to the pack life. The weight of his necklace had become a familiar feeling, resting against his chest when walking and drumming repeatedly when running. It was actually quite comforting. The blue gem was a reminder that he was a part of something now.

It was that reminder that brought him to the water's shore today. He had chosen the role of a warrior, and he was determined to prove himself worthy of the title. Jason was no longer able to think for just himself. He had a pack to protect, and protection required practice. It would also be necessary for him to learn the powers of his element. The warrior wouldn't be able to just practice alone. He would need a proper trainer, a teacher. This was why Jason had made his way to an open and more public area. Raising his head to the sky, he called for Keston. Once the wind carried his howl and Jason was satisfied it would reach the alpha, he wandered to the waters edge where he would let the gentle waves lap at his paws as he waited.

His feet kept time with the beating of his heart—slow, steady, and even—as Keston found his way along the shore. Gulls and terns made their cries heard overhead, taking flight above precarious waves as they hunted for their meals within the shallows of Kei’s lifeblood. Leaving his footprints in the sand, the lion toed the edge of the shoreline where the rolling tide ravaged the feathering around his ankles with a certain hunger. It tempted him out into the waters like a siren whispering into the hearts of men; a seductress he was too weak to fight off on his own. A call broke the siren’s spell, however, and the Lioncourt is charged by his ingrained sense of deontology to respond. Curiosity called to him as well to enquire after the source of the call, and after several moments of continuing down the shoreline, he came upon the warrior. “Good day to you, Jason. I hope you have been settling in nicely?” The lion asked kindly, a content smile linger across his features and lending warmth to the golden hues. Keston was eager to get to know the man, and a few moments after his arrival, the alpha eased back on his hind limbs casually while his tail wrapped around to the side with comfort.
Jason - sorry for the wait! <3

Surprisingly, Jason found that he was nervous. Each passing moment quickened his heart rate, the thought of training rolling over in his mind. His last training session, once held so long ago, did not end well. The dark wolf was sure that he wouldn't be ambushed in the midst of this session, but the idea still crept in the back of his mind. That nagging fear and the general anxiety of pleasing his alpha was enough to set Jason on edge.

Soon after, Keston arrived. Jason had almost expected there to be a grand entrance with birds singing for his arrival, but there was nothing of the sort. In fact, it was quite a casual greeting, a friendly welcome. It was this that immediately put Jason's nerves to rest. The two males sat together on the beach, the waves rolling softly in the background.

"Hello, Keston. Yes I think I'm finally getting into the swing of things," began Jason. "In fact, I've even found myself a den." The memory of the small home sheltered by reeds as cover sent a small smile to Jason's lips. The reeds reminded him a bit of his old den in the Hakai Mists. They protected him from prying eyes and gave him some privacy. He was a pack wolf now, but he still occasionally needed some time on his own.

"I called you to request a training session. You allowed me to take the position as a warrior, and I want to make sure I am prepared for it." There was determination behind his words. Even his eyes held that look of focus in them as Jason honed in on his main goal of this meeting with Keston.

The sound of the ocean is like the heartbeat of Kei, each rush of the tide akin to the contraction of the muscle that birthed life into this world. Keston was at peace whenever he was near, drawing a sense of calm over his body that resonated into the own rhythms of his heart and sang an anthem for their goddess. Her presence quelled his troubles, as it had throughout all the tribulations he faced in life—each had made him stronger, wiser, and better prepared to face the next challenge. Though the lion would not mind a stretch of simpler times, he was pleased and rather content with the current affairs of life. With Jason’s reply, his grin was stoked by the eagerness taking form across his features. “I am glad to hear that—everything can be so overwhelming at first, but a place to call your own is of the utmost importance.” Keston admitted thoughtfully over all that a den offered—safety and shelter, of course, but a place of belonging and ownership as well. The smile would linger with a pleasant twist of his lips when Jason continued on to request a training session to maintain his placement of warrior. With a nod of his head, Keston agreed and he was curious to find out what the man had in mind. “What do you propose? Combat or elemental training—or perhaps a mixture of the two?” He asked, leaving the details for Jason to decide as the man knew what type of training would benefit him the most.

Jason took a few moments to think. After a few moments of reflection, it surprised Jason that he had never used an elemental power before. He had left fire at such a young age and had never received the proper training. Jason hesitated, embarrassed by the fact. "Well...I've never actually used the powers of the necklaces before. I was hoping you could teach me." Saying the words aloud felt even more degrading, and Jason immediately regretted saying them.

Still, there was nothing he could do. He took this role knowing he would need training. This was that training. He shouldn't feel embarrassed for such a thing. After all, it was better to ask for help than to never learn at all. Suddenly, Jason felt a little more confident from his internal pep talk. Yes, this was a normal thing to be inexperienced. Even the experts had to start somewhere.

Keston was patient as the man thought over the context of their training, a pleasant smile fixed to his features in those moments of ambiguity. He was happy to assist regardless of the circumstances, and when Jason explained that he had never learned to use the necklaces imbued with their elemental powers, the Lioncourt keenly nodded his head. “That is a very important place to begin. Each pack is different in how to call about the powers from our necklaces. For the Water pack, we must hold our breath in order to use the powers—much like you would if you’ve ever gone underwater.” Keston began, though as someone born beside a sprawling ocean, swimming and underwater games had been second nature during his childhood. The idea that a wolf might never have experienced the same crossed his mind, and he thought of similar instances that might equate to the experience. Yet being submerged was like being transported to an entirely different world, with foreign sights and muffled sounds. Before the grappling hooks of nostalgia snag him, Keston surfaced from the momentary lapse that birthed his wayward thoughts in order to continue the lesson. “We can start with practicing that before moving on to actual powers. Take a deep breath in using the muscles in your abdomen to fully inflate your lungs, and then hold it in as long as you can manage.” Keston explained before his jaws parted anticipatorily, sucking in the brackish air surrounding them until his sides expanded. Impregnated with a captive breath, his jaws would close to complete the seal as cerulean eyes looked encouragingly to Jason to do the same.

Following Keston's example, Jason parted his lips to draw in a deep breath, utilizing his abdomen as instructed. The warrior let the air fill his lungs completely before closing his mouth and stopping his breathing. Jason had never submerged himself in water to where he needed to hold his breath, so the sensation was new and unfamiliar. It felt strange to stop such a natural bodily function. Despite this, he continued on.

It didn't take long for his lungs to begin aching. The restriction of oxygen was new, so he wasn't used to stress it placed on his body. Keston made it seem so easy, but Jason found his lungs beginning to burn with each passing second. In an attempt to distract himself, he closed his eyes. The dark wolf began to picture waves around him as if he were underwater himself. He could feel the current flowing past him, the blue sea sheltering him in its cool wakes.

Suddenly, Jason felt something deep inside him awaken. It was a feeling unlike any other, and he immediately recoiled, gasping out the little reserves of air he had left. His eyes shot open to look at Keston. "Wh- what was that?" he choked out. His shoulders rose and fell as he tried to steady his breathing.

Watchful after dispensing his instructions, Keston observed Jason as the warrior took up a breath and held it within his lungs. The following moments left his mind anxious, for the Lioncourt was there to ensure the training remained safely within the bounds of reason and did not warrant too much energy too soon. Jason was still learning to discover and use the power of the gods, and Keston found it was most important to take each step slowly so that the body could acclimate to the new changes. A smile rested on his features with encouraging accord while Jason uncovered a revelation, breathing out the reserves of air in a small gust. “That was it! Good job, Jason!” Keston remarked excitedly, feeling a sense of pride in witnessing the growth of Kei’s members. His tail wagged back and forth from his enthusiasm as cerulean eyes rested patiently as Jason worked to regain his breath. “When you feel ready and if you are willing, we can try to use Water’s default power of Drizzle. Do the exact same thing as you did, and when you reach that feeling again, try concentrating on drawing moisture from the air and your surroundings. Bring it towards you like a cloud and form small droplets of water within.” Keston went on to explain, hoping his explanation was sufficient for the warrior to expand upon through experience and practice.
